To rent a boat in Skiathos, you first need to decide whether you want a no licence boat for a beginner-friendly adventure, a high-power boat with l license required for more speed, or a private trip with a professional skipper for the ultimate stress-free experience.
GR Boat Rental has many fleets ranging from compact 4-person boats to large 10-person RIBs. It is highly recommended to book in advance online, especially during the peak summer months of July and August.
Do I need a boat license to rent a boat?
Our boats are very varied, and, in many cases, you can choose between renting with a skipper (no licence needed) or licenced rental (you drive yourself with a valid licence).
If you don’t have a licence or don’t feel confident, we strongly recommend booking a skippered rental so you can relax and enjoy the day. Requirements depend on local regulations, so please contact us in advance if you’re unsure what you need.
What should I bring with me on the boat?
We recommend bringing:
- Swimwear and towel
- Sunscreen, hat and sunglasses
- Light cover‑up or t‑shirt (for sun or wind)
- Personal medicines (if needed)
- Camera/phone (preferably in a waterproof pouch)
We provide safety equipment and the items listed in your trip description (e.g. water, snacks, snorkeling gear, etc.).
Do you offer custom or private trips?
Yes, we can create custom itineraries based on what you want to see and how long you want to be out. Whether it’s a romantic sunset, a family day with calm swimming spots, or a group celebration, we can suggest routes and timings that fit your plans.

Can we organise a birthday, proposal, party?
Absolutely. Our boats are ideal for small celebrations like birthdays, proposals, anniversaries or bachelor/bachelorette parties. We can help with decorations, drinks, cake, music, and a route that gives you memorable photos.

Is it safe for children and non‑swimmers?
Yes. our trips are suitable for families with children and non‑swimmers, but please let us know in advance so we can advise the best boat and route.
We provide life jackets, including for children, and we choose calmer waters for family trips when possible. Children must always be supervised by an adult on board.
